ChatGPT Prompts for Business: A Simple Formula + Examples
Vague prompts give vague answers. A good business prompt has four parts: role, context, task and format.
The four-part formula
- Role: who the AI should act as ("Act as a direct-response copywriter").
- Context: your product, audience and constraints.
- Task: one specific job ("Write 5 subject lines").
- Format: exactly how you want the answer (table, bullets, word limit).
Examples you can copy
- Act as a marketing strategist. My product is [X] for [audience]. List 10 problems they search for on Google, as a table with the exact search phrase.
- Act as a sales copywriter. Rewrite this product description so the first sentence states the outcome the buyer gets. Keep it under 80 words: [paste].
- Act as an operations consultant. Turn this messy task list into a weekly plan with time blocks: [paste].
- Act as a customer. Read this sales page and list the 5 questions that would stop you buying: [paste].
Mistakes to avoid
- Asking for everything at once — split big jobs into steps.
- Accepting the first draft — ask for 3 versions and pick one.
- Leaving out your audience — output becomes generic.
